Position Purpose

The FSA Internship Program is designed to provide students and recent graduates with practical experience in food safety, policy development, communications, science, and research. This internship allows participants to work on real projects, develop their skills, and gain valuable insights into the workings of a regulatory body. Interns will collaborate with various departments, supporting the FSA’s mission to protect public health and consumers’ interests.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of food safety policies, standards, and regulations.
  • Support research projects, data collection, and analysis related to food safety, nutrition, and public health.
  • Participate in team meetings, providing input on policy development and regulatory issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support ongoing initiatives in areas such as food safety communications, consumer protection, or food authenticity.
  • Assist in drafting reports, policy documents, and communication materials for stakeholders and the public.
  • Provide support in organizing events, workshops, and public consultations aimed at enhancing awareness of food safety and standards.
  • Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of emerging risks and trends in the food industry.
  • Support administrative tasks, project coordination, and stakeholder engagement.

Education, Experience, and Skills

Education:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Food Science, Public Health, Nutrition, Biology, Environmental Science, Law, Communications, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in research, policy analysis, data management, or a public sector environment is advantageous but not required.
  • Experience in project management, event coordination, or communication roles is beneficial.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • A genuine interest in food safety, public health, and consumer protection.
